NELSON MAKUMI KIMANI

We are saddened to announce the death of Nelson Makumi Kimani which occurred on 25th August 2024. He was found deceased at Towns of Chapel Hill apartments Plano, Texas.

He was born in April 18th 1975, a beloved son of Peter Kimani Makumi and Phyllis Wangui Kimani.

He was a cherished brother of Antony Kaminju, the late Christine Wangari, Beth Muthoni and Esther Wanjiru.

Born and raised in Kenya, he relocated to the United States where he lived for 15 years, first in Florida and later moving to Dallas, Texas, where he lived until his demise.

He schooled in Uthiru primary school and later joined Uthiru high school. Thereafter he studied photography at the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K). He worked at Nation Media Group and was also a part time lecturer at the United States International University Africa (USIU-AFRICA). He went to South Africa and joined the Market Photo Workshop College to study photo journalistic and documentary photography. He then got an American green card and moved to the United States.

He was married to Dorcas Njoki Kanja in 2001, but they later separated and their divorce was finalized in 2019. They had three children Mellisa Wangui, Natalie Nyokabi and Natasha Njeri.

He was brother-in-law of Caroline Wanjiku and Roy Bennet Osano. He was uncle, cousin, nephew and friend to many.

Until his demise, he was the director of his company IronHorse LLC in Texas, USA. His desire for his resting place to be back home in Kenya saw him make all financial arrangements while still alive to be sent home in death which he was able to achieve, with his burial place being his father’s farm in Naivasha.

1 Corinthians 15:26 reads: “And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.”
