It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of David Ongo Nyangacha, an Earth Observation Thematic Expert at the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), which occurred on Sunday 9th February 2025 after a short illness. 

Son of Mzee John Nyang’acha and Paskalia Nyang’acha. He was a devoted spouse of Doreen Kache Oyasi, and a loving father of Ethan Jawar, Meghan Imani, Sebastian Gweth, and Keenan Mich. His presence in their lives was a source of unwavering love, guidance, and strength. David was a cherished brother of the late Nicholas Okoth, Mary Aduke, Hellen Omwenga, Lucas Oyugi, Leonard Otieno, Agnes Akinyi, Dancun Odhoch, Asca Amollo, Millicent Atieno, Lilian Anyango, and Caroline Atieno. He was son-in-law of Nathan Oyasi and Margaret Yaa. Brother-in-law of the late Grace, Rose, Doreen, Joyce, Margaret, Mirriam, Irene, and Florence. 

He was a loving uncle of Ausman, Rachael, Darlin, Scholastica, Faustine, Emmanuel, Emmaculate, Valentine, Brenda, Maria, Lavender, Luciah, Angela, Antony, Martin, Francis, Tamara, Tifany, Liam, Lloyd, Jedida, Elvin, Quinton, Lynn, Brian, Echa, Annet, Brian, Blessy, Cherita, and Levis. His absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

A Requiem Mass will be held in his honour on Wednesday, 19th February 2025 at Christ The King Catholic Church, Embakasi, Nairobi. The cortege will leave Mater Hospital, Nairobi, on 20th February 2025 to his home in Rombe Village, Uriri Sub County, Migori County, where the funeral service and burial will be held on 21st February 2025.

May his soul find eternal rest in the embrace of God’s peace.
