The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) is saddened by the untimely death of the servant of
God Rt. Rev. Cornelius Kipng’eno Arap Korir which occurred on Monday the 30th October, 2017 after a
short illness. Rt. Rev. Cornelius Kipng’eno Arap Korir was up to the time of his death, the Bishop of Catholic
Diocese of Eldoret.
Rt. Rev. Cornelius Kipng’eno Arap Korir was born in 1950 in Bomet County. He was ordained a Priest in
November 1982, and appointed the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Eldoret in April 1990 and consecrated
in July, 1990.
He led the Church at a time of turbulence in the North Rift especially during the Post-election violence of
1992, 1997, 2007/08 and even in the 2017 post-election violence that rocked some sections of the Country,
with a desire to have people stay in peace.
He has worked greatly for peace among the pastoralist communities not only in the North Rift, but
everywhere his peace work was needed.
Rt. Rev. Cornelius Kipng’eno Arap Korir served in several capacities including;
• Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops.
• The Chairman of the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission – a position he served up to the time of
his demise.
• Chairman of the Multi Sectoral Forum where he led other religious leaders in advocating for peace and
National Cohesion.
• He was a co-convener in ELOG Peace and Advisory Panel. In his capacity as the Chairman of CJPC, he
led other religious leaders in high profi le mediation processes.
