A year ago, we lost you, the cornerstone and the pillar of our family. Time has done little to dull the pain of your absence. Our hearts still break with every day that passes without you. You were the best husband, father and brother to us, and it is the honour of a lifetime to be known as your family.

You are dearly and desperately missed by your beloved wife Pauline Nyambura, your loving daughters Karen Wangari, Ciru Muriuki, and Christine Muthoni, your siblings David Gakuo, Philip Thuita, Stephen Matheri, Anthony Waiganjo and Peter Weru, your nieces and nephews, and your large circle of friends in Kenya and around the world.

The Muriuki family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has stood with us during this most difficult time. We especially would like to thank the staff of the BBC Africa Nairobi Bureau, the neighbourhood community at Golden Gate Lane, Plansview Estate, Father Njeru and the choir of Don Bosco Upper Hill, P18 Sisters, the Progressive Brothers, David Wachira, JHR Murigu, Father Kinuthia and the community in Gitundu village, Othaya, and many other friends too many to mention. May God richly bless you all.

There will be a service of celebration and remembrance of John’s remarkable life on Saturday, 24th July 2021 at his farm in Gitundu, Othaya, Nyeri County from 10am.

John 16:22 - So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
